Code of Ethics and Ethics Commission Ordinances Special Meeting Set

Well, apparently wonders never cease, miracles do still happen. The Salisbury Board of Selectmen unanimously set a reasonable date for the Special Town Meeting on Selectman Lauretano’s Code of Ethics Ordinance and Ethics Commission Ordinance proposals. All without any complaining, wrangling or equivocating by Messrs. Dresser and Rand. No shenanigans trying to set the date for this coming Tuesday either. Isn’t it amazing to see how pleasantly things can go when the majority selectmen are not being rude and jerking the minority selectman around? The date, time and location are set for April 23, 2013, 7:30PM at Salisbury Central School.

There is a petition effort underway to take the vote on these ordinances to a Referendum vote by paper ballot at Town Hall about one week after the Special Town Meeting. This will afford the largest number of voters and property owners in Salisbury the opportunity to participate in the voting, in a private booth and a non-intimidating or threatening atmosphere over the widest window of time. The Referendum would be held at Town Hall between the hours of 12 noon and 8PM., allowing people who work days or evenings the chance to vote. According to Connecticut law, weekend, out-of-town property owners will also be able to vote by Absentee Ballot in the Referendum. The two final draft proposed ordinances can be read on the Town of Salisbury website at: http://www.salisburyct.us .

Please sign the Referendum petition circulating around town. You will be enfranchising the greatest number of townspeople. It is not a matter of being for or against the ordinance proposals but simply an effort to guarantee the most voters the best chance to be able to participate in this very important issue. Folks interested in signing the petition and don’t know who has one, should feel free to call Mark or Kathy Lauretano at 860-248-0013 or 860-671-0604 respectively. Leave a message if there is no answer and we will get back to you quickly. Spread the word, hold a petition signing party for friends and neighbors. Help facilitate the largest voter and property owner participation Referendum in Salisbury’s history!
